Several models of what’s believed to be Samsung’s Galaxy S9 flagship series were certified in China earlier this week, having received the China Compulsory Certificate (3C) from the regulator in the Far Eastern country. The approved devices were identified by the model numbers SM-G9650/DS, SM-G9600/DS, and the SM-G9608/DS, with the latter one being believed to denote the smaller, 5.8-inch smartphone meant to be sold in Taiwan. Much like their identifiers imply, all three models have dual-SIM capabilities, presumably being set to succeed the Hybrid SIM setup of the Galaxy S8 series which allowed users to choose between a microSD card and a second SIM one.

The SM-G9600 is said to be the Chinese variant of the Galaxy S9, whereas the SM-G9650 allegedly denotes the 6.2-inch Galaxy S9 Plus meant to be sold in the country. China missed out on single-SIM versions of all of Samsung’s Android flagships released in recent years and that trend is unlikely to change going forward. The existence of the certificates suggests the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will soon go on sale in the country and corresponds to Samsung’s own statements on the matter, with the South Korean tech giant recently confirming the smartphone duo will be officially announced as part of the 2018 edition of the Mobile World Congress late next month. China has been a sore point for Samsung in the last half a decade as the company experienced a steep decline in its local performance and currently accounts for only around two percent of the market despite being the world’s largest smartphone vendor in overall.

The Galaxy S9 lineup will become available for pre-orders on March 1st and hit the market on March 16th, according to recent reports. Besides a more powerful chip and a new circuit board design that’s said to allow the Exynos 9810-powered model to use a larger battery, the Galaxy S9 will remain largely identical to its predecessor, insiders repeatedly claimed in recent months. The Galaxy S9 Plus will supposedly be a more significant upgrade over the 2017 phablets as it’s said to feature a dual-camera setup on its rear plate and ship with 6GB of RAM as opposed to 4GB.
