Sony has gone through several different PSP retail packages with various game, UMD movie, and memory stick pack-ins since first releasing the system. The Value Pack, Media Pack, and Giga Pack PSP systems have all come and gone, but we have the most current PSP configurations listed here.
Sony has updated the PSP twice since the system's release. The first redesign, called the PSP-2000, slimmed down the unit, doubled the system RAM, and added video output capabilities. The PSP-2000 replaced the original (PSP-1000 series) model in all retail packages in September 2007.
All systems shipping after October 2008 include the new PSP-3000 system. The PSP-3000 features an upgraded screen that has a higher contrast ratio, a wider color range, and improved screen response time to reduce blurring and image ghosting. Sony has also added video-output support for older interlaced displays.
Sony's most popular retail offering is the 9 Sony PSP Core Pack. The bundle includes the PSP, a battery, and an AC charger. The Core Pack doesn't include any games or UMD movies, but you can put the money you save on the system towards a new game or accessory of your choice.
