The PSP handheld is no longer the only piece of Sony gear with Remote Play functionality up its sleeve. Sony Ericsson has revealed that the new Aino touch-screen mobile phone can be used as a remote control with the PS3 video game console. The phone can also use remote play to stream media wirelessly while away from home. Does this mean that we could play PS3 games on our phones while on the commute to work? Yes, but without proper input, it would be an even more laggy and unfulfilling experience than it is currently on the PSP. Movies on the other hand should work flawlessly on the small 3" screen.
Sony Ericsson's strategy with the Aino phone marks a complete reversal from Microsoft, whose new ZuneHD device will instead deliver multimedia to the home entertainment console through an HDMI-out connector.
The Remote Play function on the Aino phone will also be able to access Play TV in the UK, Spain, Italy, France, and Germany. It can also access Facebook and Youtube directly from the interface. Look for the Aino mobile at selected retail locations in the winter of 2009.
