Two weeks ago, Samsung released the final build for Android 8.0 Oreo beta on its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus devices. And it looks like tomorrow will mark the end date for the beta program in its entirety. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus users saw notifications informing them of the program termination date. Samsung’s beta saw seven iterations, and the South Korean tech company used the program to identify and remove a number of bugs. The message sent to the two spring flagships assures users that the beta program was instrumental in helping the tech giant “… release more reliable, better performing software, and provide an improved user experience to Samsung users.” The closure of the beta indicates the stable version of Android Oreo is imminent.

The Android 8.0 update promises better battery life, unread notification dots, picture-in-picture mode, individual notification snoozing, and other helpful improvements. Android 7.0 Nougat, the current operating system version, was included out of the box on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones. The stable OS update was pushed to Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge phones last winter, succeeding the previous year’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Samsung appears to be following a similar timeline this year with its next generation of both hardware and software. T-Mobile, Sprint, and unlocked device users will likely receive the update first, with Verizon and AT&T variants following soon after. No official date has been announced for the stable build release.

Google announced the Android 8.0 Oreo update back in August, and in October rolled out the operating system build to its Pixel lineup. After a short time, HTC, Huawei, Motorola, and Sony pushed the stable 8.0 update for certain flagship devices. While beta programs are available on select phones, Essential, LG, OnePlus, and Samsung have yet to push the Oreo build to any of their smartphones. But as Samsung prepares to conclude the beta on its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, it can be expected that the Asian tech company will follow suit with the stable version of Android 8.0 Oreo, which is expected to arrive in the coming weeks, though the company still did not reveal when exactly.
